Lorry Jamison’s Queer YA Chiller Screak Crowdfunder

June 9, 2025

Hot on the heels of a successful digital launch, indie comics platform Comix.one and publisher Comicker Press are journing forces to crowdfund a print edition of Lorry Jamison’s SCREAK, the third installment in Jamison’s Nightshade anthology, a series of six queer YA horror stories.

Beginning on Friday, June 13, the spookiest day of the year, fans will have the opportunity to back the print edition of the tale, which centers on Addie, a young horror movie fanatic who hasn’t exactly told her parents about her new job at a haunted house. When Addie discovers the make-believe haunted house has a problem with a real, live monster, she has to race against the clock to save her coworkers and the visitors to the Screak Shack!

Creator Lorry Jamison penned SCREAK as a celebration of queerness in horror movies and the connection they felt to the horror genre because of the way it speaks to LGBTQ+ experiences.

“Screak is a fast-paced, frightful comic with some really funny twists. It’s about what made me fall in love with horror, especially the LGBTQ+ representation that made me feel so seen,” says Jamison, of their work on SCREAK.

In addition to a beautiful, limited-color print edition of the book, fans who pledge to the SCREAK crowdfunding campaign will also have access to many more goal-based awards. SCREAK has already gone to the printer, so readers will not have to wait months for their copy of SCREAK after funding.

This is the first crowdfunding collaboration between Comix and Comicker Press, but both partners are looking forward to many more.

“Lorry is an awesome creator, who pours so much heart and soul in their books. We and everyone at Comix is a huge fan of their work. In a time where queer books are being banned, we’re incredibly proud to partner with Lorry to amplify their work to the world.

Pete has been on a journey with Comix since the day we started. His strong commitment to produce high quality graphic novels and continued belief in Comix really energises us to make this campaign a resounding success.” says Saurabh Bhatia, Founder of Comix.

“This is why I believe Comicker can become a true force for the indie comics community. I remember receiving an email from Comix and a brief introduction to one… Lorry Jamison. “They’d written a couple books they needed a good home. I think that their work and style aligns well with Comicker”. A short time later, Lorry and I were able to catch up and had an incredible zoom chat. I loved Lorry’s unique style and passion for wanting to create LGBT YA comics and represent a community they hold fondly.

Lorry has tapped into a wonderful nexus of telling tales of horror in the style of beloved ‘90s & 2000s tv shows and movies. It begins town where overcoming fears of rejection, otherness, acceptance, and self-confidence seem so much harder than surviving any monster or evil creature. …or is it?

I love Lorry’s books. They tap into the fears that all of us can struggle with, and I think all readers would resonate with! When I relaunched Comicker, my hopes were to have artists and creators find us and want to add their uniqueness to our vision. Lorry was one of the first to find us and couldn’t be happier for the release of the two newest tales: SCREAK & RABBIT HOLE. Check out the NIGHSHADE anthology so far and support the growing body of work from this passionate creator.”, says Pete Steiner, Publisher at Comicker Press.

The fourth installment of the Nightshade anthology will hit the digital shelves at Comix.one in June.
