Alan was a graphic designer living in Manchester, United Kingdom, when the vampires blacked out the sun worldwide using the Darkforce as part of a coordinated invasion of the entire planet. Alan was part of a small group of civilian survivors who ended up under the protection of superhero Union Jack, who took them to a hospital that he had secured as a makeshift bunker, stocked with weapons.

The vampire horde eventually found them and there were too many for Union Jack and PC Mara Syal to defend all entrances, so Alan grabbed a sword and went out to fight the vampires to protect the other civilians. He fought bravely but was badly outnumbered by the vampires and was soon overwhelmed. One of the vampires taunted Alan that this apocalypse was the fault of him and his fellow “pansies”, comparing the situation to Sodom and Gomorrah. Even as he was bleeding out, Alan continued to fight as long as he could…but he eventually succumbed to his injuries and rose as a vampire himself!

Alan was forced to turn against Union Jack and the others until they were able to restore him to life, although he will always carry the psychological scars of this experience.
